We welcome all patients to our practices, especially children and teens. It is most important that young people learn how to look after their teeth so that problems can be avoided in the future.
Your child’s first dental checkup should occur by the time they are 12 months old. At this appointment, your dentist will review your child’s oral health. They’ll make a note of their teeth and jaw development. You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions about your baby’s teeth such as:
All your questions are welcome.
As children become older and more independent, they’ll be able to do more to keep their teeth and gums healthy. We’re here to help them learn the skills they need to enjoy lifelong dental health.
It’s also important for children to recognise that the dentist is there to help them, now and in the future. We want your child’s experience at the dentist to be a positive one. When a family prioritises their dental health, their children are likely to continue to do so as they get older.
Childhood is the ideal time to establish good daily dental health care routines. Our hygienists will polish tiny teeth, teach brushing and flossing techniques and troubleshoot problems with dental hygiene. Our dentists will check that the baby teeth are being lost on time and that the permanent teeth are coming into the mouth in a good position. We can fortify teeth with fluoride and fissure sealants if needed.
If treatment is required, we’ll use gentle techniques to enhance the comfort of your child.
The teenage years are often the best time to address orthodontic issues such as teeth straightening. If your child requires orthodontic teeth straightening, we’ll either provide treatment in-house or arrange a referral.
