What Makes A Beautiful Smile
There’s something about a smile that is important to humans. A smile connects us to others, loved ones, friends, even strangers.
On an important event like a wedding, smiles are front and centre, a big feature of the day. Your smile will be captured in your soon-to-be spouse’s memory, in the hearts and minds of your guests, and on the photographic record of the big day. You’ll want it to look its best.
So what exactly should you be aiming for? Well, that depends on your definition of ‘the perfect wedding smile’.
The Hollywood Smile
In defining the ‘perfect smile’ some people might immediately picture ‘the Hollywood Smile’. You probably know exactly what we’re talking about: a set of (almost impossibly) bright white, perfectly aligned and evenly sized teeth. Hollywood celebrities have been known to undergo cosmetic and other dental procedures to get this type of smile. Sometimes the procedures required are lengthy and expensive. In some cases, surgery is needed, followed by the downtime required for recovery. You’ll often see articles in popular media that show before and after images of subtle or dramatic dental makeovers of the rich and famous.
Of course there are many attractive celebrities who don’t have a Hollywood Smile. Here are just a few, but you can read about plenty more in articles like this one:
Celebrities Who Have Imperfect Teeth
- Katy Perry
- Keira Knightley
- Anna Paquin
- Will Ferrell
- Madonna
- Kristen Dunst
- Ricky Gervais
The Smile Across Cultures
Across the globe, there are differences in what people think makes a smile attractive. Take Japan, for example, where the trend of recent times is for young women to have crooked teeth. Some women even use orthodontics (braces) to move their teeth further out of alignment and be even more crooked and crowded!
Teeth stained with the brown juice of betel nuts or chewing tobacco are commonplace in some countries. In others, visible gold fillings are considered desirable because they are a reflection of wealth.
Perhaps, then, there is no such thing as ‘the perfect smile’. Perhaps there’s really only a ‘perfect smile for you’.
Corinna Dental’s Definition Of The Perfect Smile
We believe that a smile doesn’t have to be ‘Hollywood perfect’ to be beautiful. A beautiful smile has clean, healthy teeth and gums and a warmth that reflects a deep inner happiness. We love smiles with character as much as smiles with ‘classic perfection’.
