The Worldwide Epidemic Of Untreated Dental Diseases
This research is horrifying.
A piece of research, “The Global Burden Of Diseases, Injuries and Risk Factors Study” was published in May 2013 in the Journal of Dental Research. The report showed that severe forms of dental and oral disease, such as severe tooth decay and gum disease (periodontitis), affect 3.9 billion people worldwide. This is more than half of the world’s human population. The figures don’t account for minor dental and oral conditions such as small cavities and gingivitis.
Most populations affected are in Africa and Oceania.
The findings have highlighted the need for accessible dental services on a large scale.
