Green Is For Go! Colour-Coded Food Labels Identify High-Sugar Foods
Kids generally don’t read labels of food packaging so they are probably not very often aware of all the hidden sugars in the processed foods they commonly enjoy.
The British Dental Health Foundation supports a proposal by the British Heart Foundation and the Children’s Food Campaign to adapt a nutritional labeling scheme using the colours of the traffic light to label packages of food products.
Sugar has many names — glucose, sucrose, maltose and so on. The Foundation advises that using the traffic light system would make it easier for people, especially children, to understand which foods contain ingredients that may be harmful to their dental and general health.
