Food Allergy Awareness
It’s the start of the week long Food Allergy Awareness campaign. According to Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia, one in 10 babies is affected by food allergy and 2 in 100 adults also experience a food allergy of some degree.
Anaphylaxis is the most severe form of allergy and could be life-threatening. Some of the triggers of anaphylaxis are food, bites and stings, medication, and other less common things like latex and exercise. You can learn more about the triggers here:
This year’s campaign is called “1 in 10”, reflecting the number of babies affected by food allergies. Allergy and Anaphylaxis Australia encourages all Australians to paint one fingernail out of ten to help raise awareness, and to donate to educate the community and support people living with food allergies.
